چکیده

Sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] is a potential crop for organic production that could help meet the demand increase in food products and feed grains, but no efforts have been made to improve sorghum breeding tools, techniques, methods this cropping system. Based on revelations other crops, focal traits their prioritization optimize use likely differs from conventional targets. This study evaluated yield performance, agronomic characteristics, biotic stress resistance under certified practices range of grain genotypes included 70 hybrids, 72 advanced lines, 43 diverse accessions, as well 10 sweet cultivars four commercial maize hybrids. Multiyear, multilocation trial data demonstrated can be effectively produced using sustainable inputs, hybrid or cultivar selection extremely important success entry means ranged 26 5,970 kg ha−1. Yields top entries rivaled commercially available (Zea mays) Overall, hybrids significantly outperformed inbred lines heterosis proved beneficial influential traits, although Clemson F6 line, PV20_0426, ranked second yield. Sugarcane aphid tolerance, increased canopy closure, mold were positively correlated with should considered target use. Depending possible seed constraints, developing pure line proper trait package may effective diminish obstacle market.

Sorghum Improvement for Energy Production

Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor ( L. ) Moench ) has emerged as a leading candidate for biomass utilization among energy crops due to high yield potential, ease o f culture and wide adaptibility. Previously, enormous diversity present in the germplasm has been manipulated by sorghum breeding programs primarily to produce grain, syrup or forage. Development of sorghums for energy utilization will requir...

Quantitative trait loci underlying milk production traits in sheep.

Improvement of milk production traits in dairy sheep is required to increase the competitiveness of the industry and to maintain the production of high quality cheese in regions of Mediterranean countries with less favourable conditions. Additional improvement over classical selection could be reached if genes with significant effects on the relevant traits were specifically targeted by selecti...

Systems genetics: a paradigm to improve discovery of candidate genes and mechanisms underlying complex traits.

Understanding the control of any trait optimally requires the detection of causal genes, gene interaction, and mechanism of action to discover and model the biochemical pathways underlying the expressed phenotype. Functional genomics techniques, including RNA expression profiling via microarray and high-throughput DNA sequencing, allow for the precise genome localization of biological informati...

Quantitative Genetics and Quantitative Traits

Introduction In the chapter on Mendel and Morgan, we saw how the transmission of genes from one generation to another follows precise mathematical formula. The traits discussed in that chapter, however, were discrete traits—peas are either yellow or green, someone either has a disorder or does not have the disorder. But many behavioral traits are not like these clear-cut, have-it-or-don’t-have-...

Assessing sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L) Moench] germplasm for new traits: food, fuels & unique uses

Sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L) Moench] is the fifth most important cereal crop in the world; however, it has a wide range of other applications that are being explored with worldwide interest in renewable resources. The USA sorghum germplasm collection contains over 41,000 accessions that represent landraces and cultivars from over 115 countries. Traditionally, this collection has been evaluated ...
